Weight Gain During Pregnancy

Women gain an average of twenty to thirty-five pounds during pregnancy, with the recommended weight gain being twenty-two to thirty pounds. Some gain an additional ten pounds due to pregnancy-related medical conditions. A few women gain 50 or more pounds, resulting in much greater postpartum weight loss.

During delivery, new moms will lose roughly 12-14 pounds. The remaining weight will have to be lost through dieting, exercise, and good old-fashion will power.

So don't expect to be able to wear your skinny jeans - or even any of your pre-pregnancy jeans!! - on the way home from the hospital. Bring along stretchy pants which are much more forgiving in that awkward immediate-post-baby stage.
