Stretch Marks from Pregnancy

Stretch marks are a reality for nearly every single woman who has endured the rapid weight gain associated with pregnancy. They are scars caused by the extreme stretching your body undergoes to accomodate a growing baby.

While stretch marks most commonly appear on the stomach, they can also appear on the hips and buttocks. Some women who experience major swelling and a higher-than-normal weight gain may also get stretch marks on legs. Women with larger breasts may also find stretch marks there as well (yet another reason to ensure a perfectly fitting bra during pregnancy).

Stretch marks also tend to be hereditary. If your mom experienced stretch marks, chances are your body will experience the same.

After weight begins to return to normal, the stretch marks will fade from the more noticeable shade of pink/red/brown to a silvery white color.

Treatment for stretch marks can be costly, because it is cosmetic in nature. Laser treatment can help fade your stretchmarks. Plastic surgery can also be done to remove stretch marks.
