How Soon Before I Can Start Dieting?

Dieting can start as soon as you arrive home with your new baby, within reason. Your body is still recovering from a major event, so your first day home is not the time to try the latest fad diet of eating only carrots and beets. Watch your calorie intake, start gentle exercise such as walking, and get plenty of rest.

Unless you maintained a fairly rigorous exercise regimen during pregnancy, most doctors recommend waiting until six weeks after you deliver to start any new routines. If you had a caesarian section or some types of pregnancy complications, your doctor may recommend you wait up to three months before beginning.
