Do I Really Need Eight Glasses of Water Each Day?

The verdict is in - this is not just something your mom told you so that you wouldn't drink too much soda.

Many women limit drinking water when on a diet, thinking it will eliminate any fluid retention, but this is actually has the opposite effect.

When you limit your water intake, your body jumps into action. Thinking that there is a shortage of water, it goes into survival mode, saving every last drop it can, which will result in fluid retention and bloating. Only when your body receives plenty of water will it end its survival mode, and begin flushing the excess retained water out of your system.

During menstruation or lochia, you may find your fluid retention and bloating is much more severe when you do not drink the neccessary eight glasses of water per day.

What is water? Water is water is water. This means you cannot count coffee, tea, soda, juice or any other liquid as your water intake unless it is water. Each glass should be eight ounces, for a total of sixty-four ounces. But take the time to actually measure out how much eight ounces is, and you'll discover it isn't really that much after all. Most women can easily drink the allotted sixty-four ounces each day without feeling "water heavy".
